Another project gone awry!

Well, sorry for the boob shot, but anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Coachella tank progress

You see, the back of it looks great:

Coachella tank progress

After recalculating, it appears as though my gauge was a little off. The gauge swatch I did was done in the round because I thought that the shirt would be done in the round. Well..you see, the top of the shirt is actually done back and forth. And so, my gauge is of .5 - 1 stitch per inch. The pattern's looking for a gauge of 18 stitches and 26 rows for 4". I've got 17 stitches and 24 rows. Theoretically, that should make it shorter, shouldn't it? I even got rid of about four rows but I still need the neckline to come up about four inches at the least.

Should I start it over and try to get the right gauge and hope that evens things out (I'd probably only have to go down one needle size and it knit up pretty quickly), or should I rip it and knit a size or two smaller with the right gauge?

Votes please?!

Oof!

Here's what I would do... Get a bunch of safety pins and pin it so you can see what you need to take out. Then, measure where those decreases [or not-increases, I don't know the pattern] would fall and write it out very carefully as a new pattern. Rip it all out and see where it gets you...

Let's face it -- you have boobies and the lady in the picture doesn't. You could very well knit it again to a different gauge and still have issues. This way you'll be able to see where everything went horribly wrong and fix it properly.

The black sweater I made had a patch that you knit separately, and sewed in pretty much over the cleavage area. I can show you if you like. basically you cast on at the bottom, increase on both sides, bind off when it's high enough and baste it in

If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em!!

hehe!

It drapes so beautifully and the back looks fab - I'd agree with Minx and knit a seperate gusset to add in and hide the cleave, maybe in a pretty lacey stitch in a finer yarn so you still get a hint of your heaving busom - OR - sew in a piece of silky, lace trimmed fabric to make it look like you're wearing a cami underneath????

It looks really nice, I'm going to have to check out the link....

I give a 3rd vote to the above 2 suggestions--it looks so beautiful, I wouldn't want to change it too much. Very hot and sexy, lady!

But see, I think that if I knit a couple sizes smaller that it'll keep the drapey effect (which is in the pattern anyway) while bringing the neckline up enough to show them off while still being tactful about it.

Also, the top of it has a roll to it, which will make it difficult to add anything on to it. It must be ripped.

Hi Jenn!

I hope you didn't rip it yet! I would try to pick up stitches all around the neck, then start decreasing: something like row 1 k4 k2tog, row 2 k3 k2tog, row 3 k2 k2tog etc. until it looks smaller. Then try it on again and see if it helps. You might be able to pull the collar in that way. I've done that on a few knit tanks and it worked.

Thanks for your comment a few weeks ago! I'm coming to ny tomorrow and i'll be around for 3 weeks. I'll be at the point for sure, and I think I still have your number in my phone from last year so we can meet up if you aren't there when I am.

I love your background! I always read from bloglines so I haven't seen it lately, but I love it.

Awww I'm sorry that it didn't work out right. I'm not sure how to fix it without looking at the pattern and the sweater. (I'm a visual learner I guess.) Hope you can figure it out!

Va Va Voom!! I hate to say this, but I would probably re-knit either a size smaller or a needle size (or 2) smaller, but that's my tendency.

Whoa! Nice boob shot! As the garment seems to fit everywhere except for in front, I would opt for some alteration there, as per Ilanna.
